The tooth whitening procedure is by far the most popular cosmetic dental procedure available. Used by a wide range of people, this fast, affordable and effective treatment has a near instant impact on the whiteness of a patient's teeth.

The reality of these though is that, due to health and safety issues, the whitening ingredient in these products is very limited and any difference that they make will be minimal. It should be noted that there are also a number of high street shops offering a tooth whitening service. Some of these have come under fire for using unqualified staff to perform the procedures. This is not only illegal but potentially dangerous too, as, if the gums and lips are not correctly protected, this can result in burning.

Professional Teeth Whitening

At Beau Monde Dental Care in Bristol, we are fully trained in providing a safe and effective teeth whitening treatment.

We offer 'Enlighten' and combines both home treatment and in-house too.

This procedures involves the patient wearing specially made 'trays' that contain a whitening gel for 14 nights, whilst they sleep. This is then combined with a visit to our Bristol dental practice where one of our experienced cosmetic dentists will continue the treatment using whitening gel supplied by Enlighten. This latter procedure is more time consuming but, in the long run, gives your teeth the best chance of reaching their ultimate whiteness. This procedure may be especially useful for those with more severe discolouration.

In both cases, you will be entered into the Beau Monde Dental Care maintenance programme where we will monitor your progress and help you to achieve the whiteness that you desire.

How long does the effect last?

A commonly asked question is how long the effects of a teeth whitening procedure will last. This is very difficult to answer as people live different lifestyles. If you have had the procedure and are a heavy smoker, then, quite naturally, the results will not last for as long as someone who doesn't smoke and lives a healthy lifestyle, avoiding tooth staining products too.

The effects can last up to three years, though, as previously stated, this will vary from patient to patient. At Beau Monde Dental Care, we will discuss this with you prior to commencing any procedure.

Side Effects

The other commonly asked question we hear at our Bristol practice about the procedure is about potential side effects of teeth whitening. The good news is that there are none. The only effect that you may feel is a little extra sensitivity to hot and cold for a short while after the procedure. This sensation though is short lived and your teeth will return to normal, albeit whiter, shortly afterwards.
